Artist Statement

Louisiana Artist

I have lived in Louisiana all my life and would never change that. I love the colors, sounds and all that is Louisiana. Traveling throughout the states and Europe has expanded my vision.

I have had art around all my life. My mother was an artist and ceramists, and I imitated her as a child. My dad was a photographer. Soon I began seeing things in my own vision.

I love to move oil paint on canvas or board and I am always surprised at the final painting, as sometimes the idea begins as one thought and ends as something else. My art is mostly contemporary and somewhat abstract, with wonderful colors.

I am mostly self taught. I have studied ongoing throughout my adult life, at LSU, with several local artist, and potters. I have taken several art courses as well as a course in design through a California organization. I studied photography and spent a month photographing and developing prints in Vermont one summer. I am constantly reading to expand my knowledge of art appreciation and I am in awe of all the famous artist who have come before. I am a firm believer in having fun in life and some of my pieces show a sense of humor. I hope to always be “studying”, as I enjoy the learning process as well as the finished art.

I have exhibited here in Baton Rouge and in Alexandria. Recently I have won several awards; one locally, namely, first place, oil, England Air Park Exhibit, Alexandria, Louisiana, and second place in oil, at Chicago Restaurant Artist Show, Second place in the LAAG River Road Show.

I am presently an active member in Associated Women in The Arts, and River Region Art Association, and Louisiana Art and Artist Guild. I show at, The Elizabethan Gallery, Rue Cou Cou and restaurants here in Baton Rouge.
